I've used applesauce in the place of oil in cakes and it turned out wonderfully moist. Would it do the same as a butter replacement? Can I use applesause in the place of butter in cookie recipes?
yes it is a wonderful replacement and a good way to cut out some fat. keep in mind though it will make the out come more moist and soft so if that is not something you want than there are other substitutions. Can I use applesause in the place of butter in cookie recipes?
yes..ive made cakes that require butter and replaced applesuace...and it does make them more moist...never used it in cookies..but i don't see why not!
I don't think so, but it's worth a try
It has a lot of moisture but you still need the fat from the butter. Fat gives flavor and well they are cookies so they are treats.
Sure you can! And here's a recipe to get you started! It's a matter of cuting back on the sugar a little.
No Butter Choco-Chip Cookies
1 cup applesauce
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/4 cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup butterscotch-flavored chips
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
In a large bowl, mix together the applesauce, white sugar and brown sugar until well blended. Beat in the eggs and vanilla. Gradually stir in the flour and oats, then fold in the chocolate chips and butterscotch chips. Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto the prepared baking sheets.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, until the bottoms are golden. Cool on wire racks. Tip: when you take them out, put them on a spread out paper bag. It'll absorb even more grease and it's easy clean-up.
